Catch up! Months 6-8

I'm WAY over due for an update on this blog!  I can't believe I haven't posted any highlights since Jackson was 5 months old.  Although, honestly, it doesn't seem like it has been that long since I posted an update.  The last two months have been so much fun!  Jackson has reached a point where it seems like he literally learns something new every day.  It is sooo incredible to watch.  When reading over my last blog post, it made me a little sad to see how much he has changed in this seemingly short time.  While I wish time would go just a little bit slower and my boy wouldn't get so big so fast, I can't wait to see what the coming months hold.  I'll apologize in advance...this will probably be a ridiculously long post.  Here are some pictures and highlights from the last two months.  :)

6 Month Pictures

Jackson at his 6 month checkup (look at those rolls!).  He did so good with his shots on this visit!  Although he started screaming as soon as he was given the first one, he stopped almost as soon as the nurse let him go.  I'm so glad we won't have to deal with any more shots until his one year checkup!

Shortly after Jackson turned 6 months, we bought him a new bathtub.  I saw this at Target and couldn't resist!  He loved playing in it and was obsessed with the duck head.  Unfortunately, in the last few weeks, he started trying to crawl out of it.  To avoid any accidents, we packed the duck tub away and have graduated to taking a bath in the good ole fashioned bathtub.  He absolutely loves the freedom of being able to crawl and splash around.

Meal time is still one of his favorites!  Look at that attitude! :)

On one unseasonably warm Sunday in January, we decided to go to Pinnacle Mountain for a picnic lunch after church.  We ate and then walked a trail.  Jackson loved touching the trees.

During month 6, Jackson really got the hang of walking around the kitchen in his walker.  He was always trying to chase Zoe or run into her food and water bowls.

7 Month Pictures

One evening, I walked into the kitchen to put something in the sink and when I turned around, there was Jackson!  During month 6, Jackson began getting on his hands and knees and rocking and then quickly proceeding to scooting.  After this picture, Jackson quickly started full-on crawling.  Now, there is no such thing as sitting still!  Eric and I are constantly chasing this little toot!

Shortly after crawling, Jackson started to pull up on EVERYTHING!  He particularly loves this walker, but will pull up on anything he can get his hands on (coffee table, ottoman, chairs, and even door frames!)  Again, he is always on the move!

During month 7, Jackson also cut his first two teeth on the bottom!  They pretty much came in at the same time.  Teething isn't very fun for Jackson...he ran a low fever, drooled constantly, slept poorly, and was just overall fussy for a few days around these teeth coming through.  We have started brushing these two tiny teeth after bathtime so Jackson can get use to it early.  In the last week, as soon as I take him out of the bath and set him on the counter, he opens his mouth before I can even get the toothbrush out.  I love it!

Jackson started clapping at the end of month 6, but this was the first time I was
able to catch him doing so.  It is so cute, but he, of course,
only claps when HE wants to!

Look at that hair!

8 Month Pictures

We went to the zoo for the first time last weekend and, upon arrival, Jackson was initially unimpressed (pictured above :)).  However, once the animals caught his attention, he was much more observant of them that Eric and I thought he would be.  We had such a good day!

Look at those teeth!

Jackson's hair is getting a little out of control!  I foresee a haircut in the coming months.

- I won't have updated weight, length, and head circumference measurements for Jackson until his 9 month checkup but we were at the doctor for a fever virus at the end of February and Jackson weighed 20 lbs 9 oz.  He is getting so heavy!

- Jackson is still in size 3 diapers and I'm still double diapering him at night, which is working perfectly.  He has outgrown all of his 6 month clothes and is almost too big for his 6-9 month outfits.  Mostly, Jackson is wearing 9 month clothes.  It is crazy how much clothing I have already packed away for him.

- Jackson is drinking four 8 ounce bottles with 4 teaspoons of rice cereal during the day, usually around 8:00 am, 12:00pm, 4:00pm, and 8:00pm.  Over the last few days, these usually feeding times haven't interested Jackson, so we are just going with the flow and feeding him when he is interested!  Shortly after Jackson's 6 month checkup, we tried transitioning him off of Alimentium.  Unfortunately, that didn't go so well so we are back on Alimentum.  Although this forumla is very expensive, I think we will just stick with it until Jackson turns one (only 4 more months!).  Over the last two months, he has tried lots of different fruits and veggies and has loved most of them!  He still is not a fan of green peas so we are putting those away for a little while.  I usually feed him a little fruit for breakfast, he gets a veggie around lunch, and eats cereal and some more veggies around dinner time.  We are holding off on trying any type of dairy (yogurt or cottage cheese) until he is older due to his lactose intolerance.

- Jackson still isn't the best sleeper.  We have a bedtime routine in the evening and he falls asleep quickly.  He just doesn't like to stay asleep. :)  He usually wakes up 1-2 times a night.  Sometimes he goes back to sleep fairly easily, while other times he fusses for a while.  I was a terrible sleeper as a baby so I have a feeling he just came by it naturally!

- Since starting Zyrtec after turning 6 months old, Jackson's congestion and drainage has improved dramatically!  Other than the fever virus at the end of February which lasted about 2 days, Jackson has not been sick or had to go to the doctor.  For those close to us, you know this is huge!   While at the doctor for his virus, the doctor checked his ears and said they were looking pretty good.  She will check them again at his 9 month checkup, but we are praying he will not have to have tubes this spring!

- Overall, Jackson is such a happy baby.  He typically only cries when he is tired, hungry, or not feeling good.  However, over the last two weeks, he has started fussing when I leave the room.  We're hoping this is just a phase of separation anxiety that will pass quickly!  Jackson plays so well.  In the last several weeks, he has actually started playing by himself a lot.  As long as we are in the room, he is content to play with his toys, crawl around and explore, and, of course, get into everything he shouldn't!  He babbles all the time and loves saying "dada."  Although recently, it has sounded more like "dadee." :)

- One recent development that isn't a favorite of Eric or mine is Jackson's temper.  Again, this is a trait the poor guy comes by naturally (although Eric and I debate frequently who is at fault for this one! ha!).  If Jackson does not want to do something or if he wants something we won't let him have, he will get mad!  We have seen several actual tantrums!  I had a feeling this would be something we would deal with in the future, but had no idea this little guy could throw such a fit.  I'm talking "throw himself backward, swing his arms, kick his feet, and yell" fit!  So far, we've been able to say "no" and distract him, but have a feeling we will be taking another approach as he gets older. :)  Right now, its cute to see all of his personality...at 2, it won't be so cute. haha!  He is going to be one strong willed little man.

- Likes: Bathtime would still be high on this list.  Jackson loves being outside, riding in the car, and mostly playing with us.  Jackson is very ticklish and is easy to make laugh when tickled.  It is so cute!  Jackson has also developed a great love for Zoe's food and water bowls.  It is almost impossible to keep him away from them!  He loves the sound the metal bowl makes when hitting the tile.

- Dislikes:  Jackson is 8 months old and still HATES having his diaper changed.  I have no idea why!  We give him toys to play with and sing and talk to him in attempt to distract him, but this rarely works!  He typically cries the entire time.  As Jackson has become more mobile, he has begun to dislike anything that requires him to be stationary.  The jumpers that he once loved have become torture devices for him since he can't go anywhere.  Although he loves riding in the car, he will start crying the minute you try to put him in the carseat, only becoming happy once the movement starts.

Eric and I couldn't love his little guy more and thank God every day for him!!

5 Months

Since today is Jackson's last day as a 5 month old, I thought I better get some 5 month pictures and highlights posted!  Jackson has grown and changed so much over the last month and a half...Eric and I have been spending all of our time with him just soaking it up!  It is so hard to believe he will be six months old tomorrow.  He is growing up way too fast!  I've been spending some time uploading some pictures from my camera and have been amazed at how much Jackson has changed in what feels like such a short period of time.  Love this precious boy!!

-Although I won't have length and head circumference measurements until Jackson's six month checkup in a few weeks, we were at the doctor yesterday for a sick visit and he weighed 18 lbs 1.2 oz!

-Jackson is now in size 3 diapers.  I've been double diapering him at night with a size 4 diaper over his size 3 due to frequent leaky diapers.  Thankfully, it has helped!  Clothing wise, his 6 month outfits are quickly becoming too small!  I've been incorporating a few 6-9 month and 9 month outfits over the last two weeks.  Makes this mama sad!

-Jackson is drinking four 6 1/2 ounce bottles with 3 teaspoons of rice cereal during the day and then a 7 ounce bottle with 5 teaspoons of cereal at bedtime (still on Alimentum).  Boy loves to eat!  His feeding schedule has pretty much stayed the same with bottles at 4:00 am, 8:00 am, 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 8:00 pm.  Right after he turned 4 months old, we started feeding him baby food with his cereal for dinner.  We started with veggies (green beans, peas, squash, and sweet potatoes) and then moved to fruits (peaches, pears, apples, and bananas).  So far, the only one he has hated and refuses to eat is peas!  He now eats a 1/2 jar of a veggie before his noon bottle and a 1/2 jar of a veggie, 1/2 jar of a fruit, and 1 tablespoon of rice cereal for dinner.  Like I said, this boy loves to eat!  His sleeping has gotten much better over the past month.  Some nights, he still wakes up during the night, but we have been able to get him back to sleep much easier.  He has fallen into a pretty regular nap routine with two naps a day (one in the morning and a longer one in the afternoon).

-Jackson's been having lots of issues with his ears, which prompted our sick visit yesterday.  The doctor has kindly informed me that Jackson has "awful ears."  She explained that she has never seen them completely cleared and is positive she will be referring us to an ENT for tubes in his near future.  She said they typically like to wait until babies are close to a year old, but she doesn't feel like we will be able to wait that long with Jackson.  She prescribed him Zyrtec yesterday to be taken daily in hopes this will clear some of his allergy-related congestion/drainage, which in turn will hopefully clear up some of the fluid in his ears as well.  She is hoping this will hold him over until he is 8 or 9 months old, at which point we will further discuss tubes.  Oddly enough, despite the occasional fussiness, you would never know by Jackson's behavior that his ears are bothering him!  Our only signs that he is having problems are a fever, disinterest in eating, or problems with his sleeping.  I'm praying the Zyrtec will help some!

-As I mentioned before, Jackson has grown and changed so much over the last month and a half...it amazes Eric and I!  It is incredible to watch him all of the sudden be able to do something new!  Over the last two months, Jackson has mastered rolling over (in both directions) and sitting up.  He isn't able to go from laying down to sitting up on his own, but if we put him down sitting up, he can stay that way with no assistance!  When laying on his stomach, he has started using his feet to push himself forward in attempts to get somewhere (particularly when he is after a toy).  He's also started pulling his knees under him and pushing up on his arms, but so far, he hasn't figured out how to move.  We've noticed a tiny corner of a tooth peeking through, accompanied by excessive drooling and chewing on anything and everything!  He has turned into such a happy baby!  The only times he really cries are when he is hungry or tired.  He loves to play, especially with his mom and dad.  He's had fun exploring all the new toys he got for Christmas.  Jackson "talks" constantly.  He particularly loves saying "dadadada"...the little traitor! :)

-Likes:  Bath time is still one of Jackson's favorites!  He now sits up in the bath and has started playing with his bath toys.  He particularly loves to slap the water with his hands!  He also still loves jumping.  Santa brought him a doorway jumper for Christmas and he spends lots of time going back and forth between that and his jumperoo.  Most of all, Jackson loves to play with Eric and I.  He smiles, laughs, and watches everything we do.  It is beyond precious!

Dislikes:  With frequent drainage and congestion, we are still having to use an aspirator almost daily.  Jackson despises anything touching his nose.  He's even started getting mad when I pull a shirt over his face if it touches his nose. :)  Hopefully the Zyrtec will clear up some of his drainage so we can put the aspirator away!

I'm so looking forward to watching Jackson continue to learn and develop and can't wait to see what the next six months hold!!

Jackson's First Christmas

Christmas this year with Jackson was SO much fun!  He didn't really know what was going on, but I loved celebrating our first Christmas as a family of three.  I know it will only get better as he gets older!  My parents came to Little Rock for the week of Christmas, spending part of the week with us and the rest of the week with Hayley and Dunn.  It worked out perfectly that Jackson was able to stay home with my mom and Dad while Eric and I worked on Monday and Tuesday.  I know they loved getting to spend time loving on Baby J!  Christmas Eve night, Eric, Jackson, and I went to my sister's house for my family's Christmas dinner.  Every year, after Thanksgiving, everyone in my family picks a meal and dessert (and has to keep it a secret!) and then we draw for what we will eat for Christmas Eve dinner.  This has been a tradition in my family for years!  This year, Eric won the drawing with my mom's cashew chicken, egg drop soup, egg rolls, and crab rangoons, which were delicious!  We typically all stay together on Christmas Eve night so we can open presents on Christmas morning, but with Jackson, it was easier to go home this year.  Packing up everything he needs to stay away from home for one night is crazy!  We woke up early and headed back to my sister's house to open presents Christmas morning.  Jackson was all about helping everyone with their stockings and chewing on tissue paper and wrapping paper!  Although his grandparents were asked to keep presents at a minimum this year, this mama's requests were ignored and Jackson got WAY too many presents.  After opening presents with my family, we headed to Eric's parents' house to spend time with his family.  We ate a big Christmas lunch and opened more presents!  We had a great day and are so blessed to have such wonderful families!  Thankfully, I was on vacation Thursday and Friday and spent some much needed time with my sweet boy!

Christmas Eve

My boys!

Christmas morning!

Jackson and Zoe are checking each other out.

Everything goes to his mouth...even Mimi's candy!

He's helping Mimi out with her stocking.

Presents from Santa, Mimi & Popi, Aunt Hayley & Uncle Dunn, and mom & dad.  Due to the craziness of the rest of the day and evening, I wasn't able to get a picture of the presents his Peepaw & Meemaw got him, but he got a walker, Baby Einstein videos, a Broncos outfit (daddy's favorite gift!), some cereal, and ton of baby food.  This mama was most excited about the practical gifts...the formula, diapers, and baby food!  We are so very blessed!

Checking out his Baby Einstein movie from his Peepaw & Meemaw.

Jackson's First Thanksgiving

We celebrated Thanksgiving this year with lunch and games at Eric's parents' house with his family.  Jackson didn't feel so great and started throwing up shortly before lunch.  We initially thought it was related to his acid reflex as he was in a great mood throughout the day (if his stomach bothers him at all, he has problems keeping his bottles down).  My brother-in-law came to eat and hang out since he had worked that morning and then Thursday night, Dunn and I joined the masses at Wal-Mart for some brief Black Friday shopping while Eric stayed home with Baby J.  Friday morning, Eric, Jackson, and I traveled home to my parents' house to spend the weekend with my mom, dad, and sister.  Unfortunately, we quickly learned Jackson had indeed caught a stomach bug, which rapidly spread through the house.  Somehow, Eric and my sister managed to avoid it, but it was awful for the rest of us!  Needless to say, it wasn't the most pleasant four day weekend for the Moore family!  Luckily, I was able to get some pictures of Jackson's first Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving outfit lasted about 10 minutes!
